WICHITA, Kan. — After a slow start from both teams the Kansas City Phantoms took the lead with less than half of the first quarter left to play. Shortly after a successful field goal by the Phantoms, Force QB Jake Medlock ran in for a 5-yard touchdown, bringing the Force in the lead 7-3.
The second quarter started off quick with a spin move touchdown by RB Tyler Batts. Kansas City answered a good time later with a touchdown by Jared Elmore. Two downs later Force QB Jake Medlock found WR D.A. Allen for a 25-yard touchdown. Force K Luke Pray kicked a successful 28-yard field goal to add 3 more points to the board. To close out the quarter, the Phantoms made their presence known with a 50- yard kick-off return by Darrian Miller. The score at half time had Wichita in the lead 27-17.
The third quarter was slow and unsuccessful for both teams. The only points scored in the quarter were by Force K Luke Pray with a 30-yard field goal. After multiple unproductive drives by both teams the quarter came to a close leaving the Force up 30-17.
After a slow third quarter, the fourth quarter was action packed. The Phantoms’ Darrian Miller started out with a short rushing touchdown. However, QB Medlock and WR Clarence Anderson quickly connected for a 25-yard touchdown. Shortly after the touchdown, Force DB Darien Anderson intercepted a pass from Phantoms’ QB Frank Seuer for a short return of 5 yards. Force QB Jake Medlock and WR Clarence Anderson connected again on the next Force drive for a 10-yard touchdown, bringing the score to 41-25. The Phantoms’ Darrian Miller answered yet again with a short touchdown. Three plays later Jake and Clarence connected again, this time for a 19-yard touchdown. On the next Phantoms drive QB Seuer was picked off again, this time by DB Chris Hemphill. After the interception time ran out leaving the Force victorious, 48-31.
The Wichita Force defense made their presence known all game with 54 total tackles. DB Darien Anderson led the way with nine tackles and one interception. Other leaders were DL Chaq Reed with eight tackles, LB Jason Catchings with seven tackles, and DB Chris Hemphill with six tackles and one interception.
The Wichita Force is back in action on the road this weekend as they take on the Dodge City Law. The next Force home game will be May 6 and INTRUST Bank Arena against the Law. May 6 will be Scout Night with the Force. Also the players will be signing autographs after the game.
